The Nonprofit 18th Wonder Improvement Association in Reading's Millmont, Oakbrook & Wyomissing Park neighborhoods promotes community, unified purpose, historic continuity and the image and potency of economic revitalization for all.
History: The 18th Ward is home to approximately 10,720 residents and includes local, national, and international businesses. In 2017, the 18th Ward Improvement District Alliance was formed by concerned residents and businesses inhabiting the 18th Ward of Reading, PA. These stakeholders are committed to continued development and sustained management to ensure prosperity within the neighborhoods of Millmont, Oakbrook and Wyomissing Park in the 18th Ward of the City of Reading, Berks County, Pennsylvania. The alliance immediately recognized the need for, and embarked on, Strategic Planning for the 18th Ward - taking into consideration the voices of all who call this section of Reading their home/place of business. The 5-year comprehensive strategic plan was finalized in 2018 with the intent to strengthen connectivity in and around the 18th Ward of Reading. The Plan outlines the development of projects, programs and activities to establish and enhance community development, safety, recreation opportunities, beautification and preservation that involves the whole community, especially our youth, and incorporates previous City Planning efforts. Tax exempt status was established in May of 2018 and the “18th Wonder Improvement Association” or “18th Wonder” officially became a Federal 501(c)3 Charitable Nonprofit Community Development Corporation.
