Introducing Knight Riders: A Greener Path to Neighborhood Security

We are excited to share a new direction for our neighborhood watch group, one that not only addresses the challenges we've faced but also takes us on a path toward a greener and more efficient future.

Originally, our vision for the neighborhood watch group included the use of horses for patrols. However, as we delved into the logistics and requirements, it became evident that this path was laden with hurdles. From caring for horses to obtaining insurance and permits, the obstacles were substantial. Therefore, in the best interest of our community, we are exploring a shift in our approach.

A Greener and More Feasible Alternative: Electric Bikes

Our thinking transitioned from horses to pedal-assisted electric bikes for our community watch group, aptly named "Knight Riders." This change enables us to overcome the challenges we encountered while still achieving our primary goal of enhancing security and safety within our neighborhood.

Practicality and Environmental Impact

The use of electric bikes offers several advantages. They are practical and easy to maneuver, ensuring that our patrols can be conducted efficiently. Additionally, electric bikes have a reduced environmental impact compared to traditional vehicles, aligning with our commitment to sustainability.

Patrolling Strategy

Our plan involves organizing groups of three members to patrol the neighborhood on different days and at various times. This approach ensures consistent coverage and the ability to respond promptly to any concerns or incidents. To put this plan into action, we will need approximately 12 dedicated volunteers to participate actively.

Recognition and Compensation

To show our appreciation for the commitment of our watch group members, we are considering compensating each patrol member for their time spent patrolling. This not only acknowledges their efforts but also helps incentivize active participation.

Building a Stronger Community

Beyond enhancing security, this initiative is poised to strengthen our sense of community. The interaction and cooperation among the 12 watch group members will foster a tight-knit community where neighbors support each other, contributing to a safer environment.

Seeking Guidance from Experienced Hands

To kickstart this exciting journey, we are seeking the assistance of the Reading Police Officers who handle bike patrols for Oakbrook. Their expertise and experience in bike patrolling can provide invaluable insights as we establish "Knight Riders."

Stay tuned for more updates as we gear up to launch "Knight Riders" and make our community a safer, more eco-friendly place to call home.
