Urban Agriculture Tour: Showcasing Community Gardens and Urban Farms

An Event Made Possible by the 2024 Innovation Fund Grant

The Urban Agriculture Tour, made possible by the 2024 Innovation Fund Grant of Berks County Community Foundation, was a remarkable event that highlighted the vibrant community gardens and urban farms in the City of Reading.

Showcasing Seven Community Gardens and Urban Farms

This tour showcased seven significant community gardens and urban farms within our city. These green spaces are more than just plots of land; they are hubs of activity and growth, providing their communities with safe, green areas to gather, learn, and connect with food, nature, and each other.

Highlighting Gardens and Green Spaces Along the Bus Route

The tour also highlighted other gardens and greenspaces along the bus route, offering participants a comprehensive view of the urban agriculture initiatives that are transforming our city. These spaces play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for residents by promoting sustainable living and fostering a sense of community.

B.A.R.N.'s Mission: Raising Awareness

The Berks Agricultural Resource Network (B.A.R.N.) aims to raise awareness of these important sites. By showcasing these gardens and urban farms, B.A.R.N. hopes to inspire more community engagement and support for urban agriculture. These sites not only provide fresh produce but also serve as educational platforms and communal gathering spots.

Connecting with Food, Nature, and Each Other

Participants in the tour had the opportunity to witness firsthand how these gardens and urban farms bring people together. They are places where residents can connect with nature, learn about sustainable farming practices, and enjoy the bounty of fresh, locally-grown food.

A Successful Event Celebrating Community and Sustainability

The Urban Agriculture Tour was a resounding success, celebrating the hard work and dedication of those involved in maintaining these green spaces. It underscored the importance of urban agriculture in creating healthier, more connected communities.
